This is a special Sunday because millions of Christians around the world will celebrate the Lord’s Supper together – and in a world that is often so focused on what is different about each other, this reminds us of our greatest commonality. We are all beloved children of God and through the Lord’s Supper he draws us close to Him and to each other. That unity is what we strive for, right? Though it’s tough. When James wrote what ended up being chapter 4:1-10, there was great angst, division, and selfishness. We want because we do not ask God. We want because our motives aren’t clear or pure. The majority of the focus will be on verses 7-8 “resist the devil and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you.” Again – it’s fitting we are celebrating how God came down and draws near to us through the sacrament.
