Jonah spent a lot of time running away from God’s call on his life. Even after he promised to follow through with God’s plan to preach to the Ninevites he did so half-heartedly because he knew the power of God’s love. Time and time again, God is compassionate, slow to anger, and steadfast in love – not just for the faithful, but even those who rude, hateful, and even violent people. God can choose to be compassionate and merciful to those we think deserve it the least. You’ll never know who you might see up in Heaven because God’s grace is far deeper than we could possibly imagine.
